November 2018 Ipsy + Birch Box

Another month of great goodies! Ipsy killed it as usual and Birch Box has caught on to my preferences. Truly the best having 2 beauty boxes delivered to me each month.

Now that I’ve had Birch Box for 5 months, they have finally figured out what I like and don’t like. It takes some time with subscriptions like this to perfect it. I was so surprised to see 2 deluxe samples in my Birch Box this month! We’ll get to those in a bit.

Birch Box November 2018 – Kessler Ramirez

1. Love of Color – Liquid Shimmer Eye Shadow

Birch Box November 2018 – Kessler Ramirez

If you’ve read my previous beauty subscription box posts, you know I’m not an eyeshadow person. I’ll wear the occasional shimmer or gold shadow, but colors are not for me. I tried this eyeshadow out just to give it a chance and a fair review, but I wasn’t a big fan.

I didn’t use much which resulted in odd patches of it on my eyelids – it dried quickly and did not want to be spread out. The color isn’t bad, but is a slight pinky. I’ll have to give it another chance and make sure to use more and blend it out quickly.

This is actually a Birch Box brand and they claim to be cruelty-free, but I can’t say for sure whether they are 100% cruelty-free or not.

2. Lise Watier – Dramatique Intense 3D Volume Mascara

Birch Box November 2018 – Kessler Ramirez

Again, if you’ve read previous posts about my beauty subscriptions, you know I ONLY wear waterproof mascara. I have stubbornly straight eyelashes that I have to spend a good amount of time curling with an eyelash curler. Only waterproof mascara can hold the curl –like a nice, stiff hairspray. This one is not waterproof, so it will be going into a pile of unused makeup to sell on Depop in cute sets.

*100% cruelty-free

3. Dr. Jart+ – Cicapair™ Tiger Grass Color Correcting Treatment SPF 30

Birch Box November 2018 – Kessler Ramirez

This product was something I was really curious about. I’ve seen color correcting concealer, but never a “treatment”. With a thick, face mud-like texture, this product is a slight green. It says it changed to a beige to help mask redness. I have uneven redness on my face so this was something I was very interested in.

I’m allergic to sunscreen, so any product that contains sunscreen needs to be tested before I spread it all over my entire face. Most makeup with sunscreen is okay because it’s pure zinc oxide or titanium oxide, which I am not allergic to. It’s great to have a daily product with sunscreen that I can wear on my face.

There isn’t a huge difference in redness, but it does slightly even my skin tone plus the sunscreen. This is definitely a product I will wear every day for very light makeup and sun protection.

*NOT cruelty-free :(

4. Davines Alchemic – Shampoo Silver – For Natural & Color-Treated Hair

Birch Box November 2018 – Kessler Ramirez

Onto the DELUXE samples! When I opened the box and saw two large (in comparison to the usual small samples) bottles, I couldn’t believe it! One was this shampoo and the other was it’s partner, the conditioner. As a long-time user of purple shampoo that I love love love, I was ready to judge this new purple shampoo.

For those who don’t know – purple shampoo is usually used for color-treated blonde hair and evens out the yellow tones. As someone who once had 100% whitest white hair, purple shampoo was my savior between hair salon appointments. My hair would start to get yellow and brassy and with one shampoo would go right back to white, bright blonde.

I had recently used my beloved purple shampoo, so I didn’t noticed a huge difference with this. I will have to try it again once my hair starts to get yellow again.

5. Davines Alchemic – Conditioner Silver – For Natural & Color Treated Hair

Birch Box November 2018 – Kessler Ramirez

The partner to the shampoo, this is purple conditioner that is formulated to get rid of the yellow and brassy tones in blonde hair. I’ve never used a purple conditioner, but assumed it works similarly to purple shampoo. It didn’t make my hair silky soft or anything like that and again, didn’t notice a big difference (okay I just didn’t pay attention) in yellowness. Not too bad, though!

1. Dermadeli – Pumpkin Seed Serum

Birch Box November 2018 – Kessler Ramirez

I have become a skincare-obsessed person and even changed my ipsy preferences to include all things skincare. I have hoarded all my skincare samples and rotate out the serums I’ve received. This one is in a great contained and I love serums that come with droppers. It’s very sticky, so it needs time to be absorbed into the skin. I avoid putting it on my oily t-zone like I do with all serums to avoid making it more oily.

This brand was founded by a woman (support women owned businesses!) for her daughter. It is all natural ingredients and made in the USA.

*100% cruelty-free with some vegan products

2. MAC – Strobe Cream in Pinklite

Birch Box November 2018 – Kessler Ramirez

I’ve actually gotten this product from ipsy once or twice before and it’s not my favorite. I don’t like MAC products because they are not cruelty-free and I haven’t had much luck with finding products I like.

*NOT cruelty-free :(

3. Youth to the people – Superfood Air-whip Moisture Cream

Birch Box November 2018 – Kessler Ramirez

Haven’t met a skincare product I didn’t like. So naturally, I love this moisture cream. The packaging is gorgeous (I’m a total sucker for good packaging. It’s ALL about marketing!) and the product itself is a lightweight, hydrating formula. Plus, it has the magic ingredient… hyaluronic acid! Oh, plus kale, spinach, and green tea – the superfoods!

*100% cruelty-free and vegan

4. Ciaté London – Mini Translucent Setting Powder in Hideout

Birch Box November 2018 – Kessler Ramirez

I’ve only ever known this brand as a nail polish brand – I had no idea they made makeup! I have not used this one much yet, but so far so good. Seems to set my makeup nicely without looking too powdery.

*100% cruelty-free and vegan

5. Pixi by Petra – Liplife Max in Honey Sheen

Birch Box November 2018 – Kessler Ramirez

This is one of my favorite brands so I’m always happy to get in my ipsy is a Pixi product. I love this lip gloss because it isn’t too sparkly – just the right amount of shimmer. It can be worn on top of a lipstick or by itself for a more natural look. It has a slight gold tint to it, which is gorgeous on any lip color.

*100% cruelty-free with many vegan products
